Xi’an, China — Cooling system corrosion and circulating water contamination are common pain points in beverage manufacturing, often causing equipment blockages, unplanned downtime and high maintenance costs. To solve long-standing operational issues on its blow molding line, Coca-Cola Xi’an Plant adopted the Tetradom® Wellan Ring chemical-free water treatment solution, successfully optimizing chilled circulating water systems and enabling stable, efficient equipment operation.
Operational Challenges Facing the Production Cooling System
The plant’s blow molding line chilled circulating water system suffered from severe long-term corrosion. Continuous rust buildup discolored circulating water to dark yellow, while loose rust debris frequently clogged bag filters. Frequent filter blockages forced repeated shutdowns for manual cleaning and maintenance, disrupting continuous production, raising operational costs and limiting production efficiency.
Traditional chemical-based water treatment methods carry inherent risks, including chemical residues, water pollution and secondary scaling. These drawbacks make them unsuitable for the food and beverage industry’s strict demands for safe, green and sustainable production.
Chemical-Free Tetradom® Solution Deployed for System Optimization
In July 2010, Coca-Cola Xi’an Plant installed the Tetradom® Wellan Ring at the chilled water tank outlet of its blow molding line. Adopting advanced physical water treatment technology, the solution requires no chemical additives, consumes no energy and needs minimal manual upkeep. It improves water quality and suppresses equipment corrosion through pure physical action, fully complying with the beverage industry’s stringent clean production standards.
Remarkable Optimization Results Achieved in Phased Operation
Tetradom® delivered significant operational improvements in a short time, with verified on-site results as follows:
One month after installation: Water quality improved markedly, with greatly reduced and refined rust deposits in filters. A thin, inert black oxide layer formed on filter inner surfaces, creating a stable protective film that effectively inhibited further corrosion and stabilized system operation.
Three months after installation: Circulating water became completely clear, with only fine powdery residues remaining. Bulk rust deposits were fully eliminated, permanently resolving the persistent filter blockage issue.
Project Value & Industrial Significance
Following Tetradom® Wellan Ring deployment, the plant’s blow molding cooling system achieved stable, uninterrupted operation. The solution effectively eliminated unplanned downtime, cut frequent maintenance workloads, boosted production reliability and continuity, and lowered overall operational costs.
As a zero-chemical, eco-friendly physical water treatment solution, Tetradom® eliminates chemical residues and excess wastewater treatment pressure, aligning with the food and beverage industry’s green and sustainable development goals. This successful application validates Tetradom®’s outstanding performance in corrosion control, water purification and system optimization, offering a replicable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly upgrade solution for beverage manufacturing cooling systems.
